koshurRAAG, a not-for-profit organization, based out of Florida, USA, celebrated India’s 75th Year of Independence as part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” initiative by the Government of India. The event, titled, ‘Pummbuch’, was inaugurated by His Excellency Shri Taranjit S. Sandhu, Indian Ambassador to the USA. Ambassador Sandhu highlighted the progress made by India in the last 75 years and emphasized on the importance of strengthening the India - US relations in today’s time. He appreciated the mission of koshurRAAG, specially in preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Kashmir/India within the Indo-American diaspora. He also appreciated the yeoman service undertaken by koshurRAAG team in providing resources to counter the COVID pandemic in India.
“Pummbuch” in Kashmiri is a lotus pod with seeds which also symbolizes societal amalgamation where each seed represents the rich cultural heritage of India. The program was hosted by a prominent Kashmiri Pandit activist, Ms. Swapna Wali Raina. Twelve renowned artists performed in fourteen different languages, eloquently showcasing the vibrant diversity of India. Well-known artists from around the world performed on the show which was streamed LIVE on koshurRAAG YouTube channel.
Ms. Sniti Mishra (Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Fame), Ms. Archana Kamath Hegdekar (Shankar Mahadevan School of Music), Ms. Simran Choudhary (Voice of India Fame), Dr. Deepali Wattal (Renowned Kashmiri Pandit Singer), Ms. Padma Dolkar (Ladakhi Music sensation) and, Roohi & Juhi Singh (the young brother sister duo from Jammu) entertained the audience in their melodious voices.
In addition, Mayank Raina (emerging youth Sitarist/Flutist in India) & Shri Tej Raina (Santoor exponent based out of Toronto, Canada), enthralled the audience with their amazing renditions.
Ms. Rashmi Nair (Kannada & Telugu singer) and Mr. Justin Thomas (Tamil & Malayalam singer), both based out of Houston, Texas gave scintillating performances. Mr. Saket Halder, a young musical talent from New Jersey, captivated the audience with a mashup in Bengali/Hindi.
Dr. Pavneesh Madan kicked off and wrapped up the event with musical performances. Mr. Upinder Bhat introduced and interacted with the event sponsor, Mr. O’Neil Khosa, CEO of Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, based out of Florida, USA. At the end, Mr. Arvin Mattoo thanked the chief guest, Ambassador Sandhu, all the participants, as well as the global audience.
koshurRAAG’s next event will be dedicated to the OCTOCENTENARY CELEBRATIONS OF LAL DED (LALLESHWARI), who was a Kashmiri mystic, poetess and a significant proponent of the Kashmiri Shaivism philosophy. This event will be streamed LIVE on koshurRAAG’s YouTube Channel on Sunday, September 26th, 2021
