Staying fit while having fun

Playing sports is a great way to stay healthy and most people like sports. Running is an important part of many sports and being a good runner improves sports performance. To become a better runner, you can join the track team at your school and if that is not possible, you can run laps around a field or your own house. You can play a game of tag or other running games if you do not like plain running. Now here’s a running game or you can make up your own. There are two bases on opposite sides and one “thrower” stands on each base. And there can be as many “runners” as available who are divided equally to stand behind the bases. The throwers standing on the bases throw a soft ball (that won’t hurt) back and forth. Each throw is counted as one and when 5 catches have been made all the runners behind a base have to run and get behind the base on the opposite side. While the runners are trying to get to the opposite side, the thrower who makes the fifth catch has to count till 4 and then try to hit any of the runners with the ball, before they get to the safe zone behind the opposite base. If a runner gets hit by a ball before he gets behind the base on his opposite side, he switches places with the thrower who hit him. The person who gets hit the least number of times is the winner of the game. In sports there are individual sports and team sports. Both help you in different ways. In individual sports you learn how to bring out the best in you while playing solo. It’s a good test of your motivation and capabilities and very importantly it is easy to setup practice and matches. In team sports you learn how to play with others and try to win as a unit. It is a lot of fun and you also make good friends. You learn leadership and teamwork. Different sports are for different abilities. If you are fast and agile you could be a running back for football or a forward in soccer. If you are tall and athletic you could play basketball or volleyball. If you have a strong arm and shoulder you could be a quarterback in football or a pitcher in basketball and even a bowler in cricket. If you have a good eye and can swing nicely you could be a batter in baseball or cricket. It is good to excel in your chosen sport but it is even more important to play the sport you like. I enjoy Taekwondo as an individual sport and football and soccer as team sports. So, what are the sports for you where you can have fun and stay fit at the same time! |
