Welcoming the guests of honour and an other distinguished invitees to the function. Senior Journalist Yash Bhasin, Trustee Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust and Convener of the Award Giving Committee stated that Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Amateur Journalists Award was instituted jointly by English Magazine Jammu Panorama, edited and published by him and Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust in 1990.Till 2004 giving away of awards to some distinguished non-professional journalists was an annual feature. About 100 eminent non-professional journalists have been conferred the awards during these 16 years. With the publication of Jammu Panorama seized in 2005, the awards could not be conferred. But the same has been revived this year with little deviation by selecting two professional journalists for the awards. Paying tributes to Late Prem Nath Bhat, a leading Advocate of Anantnag in Kashmir and an eminent non-professional journalist who pursued Journalism as a hobby, with a mission, Mr. Bhasin said that articles on socio-political subjects, mainly concerning J&K besides on spiritualism and religious philosophy of Hindus, Muslims and other faiths by Prem Nath Bhat were published in various newspapers and periodicals in the State and in the country. Right from the launch of Jammu Panorama Magazine, Prem Nath Bhat had been regularly contributing articles to the magazine till he attained martyrdom at the hands of religious fanatics, on 27th December 1989. Some of his articles forecasting the pending disaster and chaos in Kashmir proved prophetic. He was assassinated by the religious bigots as his write ups on communal harmony, peaceful co-existence and commitment to nationalism were unpalatable to the enemies of peace. He added that Prem Nath Bhat was highly respected, admired and held in high esteem not only by members of his own K.P. community but also by a large number of Muslims and members of other communities, who sought his advise and guidance on various matters. A renowned Scholar, Predhuman. K. Joseph Dhar threw light in detail on Prem Nath Bhat as an eminent journalist and humanitarian par excellence. |
