Jammu Migrants to hold Emergency Meet Jammu (India) December 14, 2009 |
Report by Raman Raina Prof. Bhim Singh, Chairman, NPP and Member, National Integration Council has called an
emergency meeting of the Jammu Migrants hailing from Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur, Ramban, Doda, Kathua and other areas of Jammu province and camping in Talwara, Belicharana and other areas in utter neglect for the past 10 years. The Supreme Court of India had directed the Government of India and the State Government to provide relief in cash and kind to the migrants in July 2006 along with the arrears. The Government of Jammu and Kashmir had admitted on affidavit before the Supreme Court of India and again before the High Court of J&K that there were 1529 approved migrant families residing in Talwara camp and other areas who had not been paid any relief from 2004 to 2007. The J&K Government also admitted that the arrears amounted to about 22 crores. The State Government had also given in writing to the Government of India for the release of this relief. In contempt case which was referred by the Supreme Court of India to the Chief Justice of J&K for appropriate action, the High Court of J&K in its judgment dated 11.11.2009 has directed the State Government to make payment of entire arrears and relief to all the 1529 families within 45 days failing which contempt proceedings shall be initiated against the State Chief Minister and Union Home Secretary. The Relief Commissioner who is the real disaster in the affair and has been acting malafide against Jammu Migrants has deliberately, intentionally with malafide intention ignored 780 families in paying relief on the pretext that the families were not traceable. Prof. Bhim Singh has invited all the migrants families and their groups to the meeting which will be held at Brahmin Sabha/Parade Ground, Jammu. |
