Akshay Kampasi
Akshay, alias Happy, was snatched away by the cruel hands of destiny on 2nd August, 2007. He had just turned 17 five months ago.
Born to Mr.Vinay and Prof.Sunita Kampasi on 2nd March 1990 at Srinagar, India, at a time when Kashmiri Hindus were being forced out of their motherland by Pak-engineered Islamic terrorists, Akshay possessed a sharp intellect and impressed all with his ready wit right from his formative years. His educated parents, particularly the mother, imparted the best possible education to the exceptionally talented boy, who had a passion for science and technology, especially computers. He had designed a family website at the age of 15. He loved music and photography. His confidence level was one of his forte. Matured beyond his years, he was a source of strength to all in the family.
It was in mid 2006 that the precocious boy was gripped with a deadly malady. The strong willed
Akshay fought the disease bravely. Though he was in and out of the hospital for eighteen months, he bore the suffering without a whimper. Finally the brave boy lost the stoic battle of life. His parents, relative and friends could not believe that the loving boy had just left them for good. They still think that he is aroud and is simply playing the game of hide and seek with them.
As the name implies, Akshay (the eternal) will live for ever in the hearts of his near and dear ones.
Shehjar sends heartiest condolences to the bereaved family. May Akshay's soul rest in peace!

Prof. Kameshwar Razdan
In passing away of Prof. Kameshwar Razdan, on March 2nd, 2007, at Stevens Point, WI (USA), the Razdan family lost a son, a husband, a father, a brother, a father-in-law, and a grandfather, and the rest of the community lost a brilliant scientist and a great human being. Dr. Razdan was also actively involved with KOA and contributed as KPI Newsletter Editor from 1991 to 1993.
Dr. Razdan earned his bachelor’s degree in physics from Jammu and Kashmir University. He quickly then received his master’s and Ph.D. in physics from Saugor University in India. In 1983 he was a visiting associate professor in the medical physics department at UW-Madison. There he worked on a radiation dosimetry project investigating the feasibility of using a polymer film to measure solar UV (ultra violet) exposure. In the 1970s, with National Science Foundation support, Razdan did research at ITT, Chicago, on thermo-luminescence which resulted in publications in the Journal of Applied Physics and the American Journal of Physics. He became a full professor at UWSP in 1999.
What originally began as a one-year appointment in 1967, ended as a life-changing decision as Razdan and his then young family stayed at UWSP for the past 38 years. "I had never traveled outside of India until that fateful flight to Stevens Point," said Razdan. "I brought my wife, Raj, and two young children to the United States and 38 years later we’re still here and everything worked out wonderfully for both my career and my family." In fact, both of his children went on to graduate from SPASH. His daughter, Renu, went on to get a degree from UWSP in 1989.
During his tenure at UWSP, Razdan has seen his department evolve as the science and teaching of physics has changed over the years. From 1979 through 1991 he collaborated with fellow UWSP colleagues Ronald Lokken and Allen Taylor, initiating and implementing a minors program in microelectronics and microcomputer systems, both emerging fields of study at the time. To prepare himself to teach these emerging fields of study, Razdan took two microelectronics short courses which allowed him to incorporate this newly gained knowledge into the classroom as well as supervise approximately 30 student microelectronics projects.
Professor Kameshwar Razdan
Professor Emeritus of Physics & Astronomy, Department of Physics and Astronomy
University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point, Wisconsin 54481
Retired - 2005
Education: BSc, Jammu and Kashmir University, MSc, Saugor University, PhD, Saugor University.

Prof. Moti Lal Wali - A Tribute
Passing of Prof. Moti Lal Wali has not only saddened his immediate family but entire Kashmiri Pandit community here and abroad. On September 20th, 2006 Prof. Moti Lal Wali lost his battle against diabetes and left behind his mother, wife, brother, two sons and one daughter along with their respective families and grandchildren. Prof. Wali was one of the most humble and down to earth human beings that our community has seen.
Prof. Wali was a self made man who lost his father at a very young age of eighteen years and was entrusted with the welfare of his mother Mrs. Leela Wati and younger brother Mr. Bansi Lal Wali. He witnessed Kabali Raid in 1947 while his father Mr. Niranjan Nath Wali, architect of Zaina Kadal, Srinagar Kashmir was serving in Baramulla. He would let Kabali Raider’s inside the home after having been looted of all material possessions upon successive previous attempts. Wali sahib did not get demoralized with all these setbacks and went on finishing his Masters in English Literature from University of Kashmir and then later on completing his Masters in Library and Information Sciences degree from the prestigious Banaras Hindu University in 1959.
He not only surmounted odds against himself but was also instrumental in educating his younger brother who retired recently in late 1990’s as the Director of Education, Jammu and Kashmir, India. Wali sahib’s life is a living testament of one’s courage, strength and determination to overcome challenges and obstacles in life. He never lost sight of his modest and humble beginnings in career and kept his dignity and humility at the panicle of his career. This attribute of his humility has been a guiding light to his entire extended family and will continue to inspire younger generations of Kashmiri Pandit youth here and abroad.
During his tenure as the Professor and Chairman of the Department of Library Science and Information at the Kashmir University, Hazratbal, Srinagar Kashmir he trained more than thousand new graduates who are currently serving as the Librarians in various Universities, Colleges and Centers in entire Jammu and Kashmir region and other parts of the India and abroad. He also served in various other capacities such as Dean, Faculty of Arts, Syndicate and Council member of Kashmir University during late 1980’s and early 1990’s. He retired in 1995 and served briefly as the Librarian of the Maharishi Institute of Management in New Delhi, India. He continued to be invited speaker on various Kashmiri Literary issue forums in New Delhi right up until his heavenly abode in 2006.
We mourn his untimely death and feel his legacy will be carried out by our Kashmiri Biradhari here and abroad. We also hope that he will continue to inspire young Kashmiri youth in Jammu camps to aim high irrespective of facing current grave existence and challenging circumstances. Prof. Wail’s successful life story needs to be inculcated in Kashmiri Pandit young impressionable youth that hope overcomes despair and never loose sight of bigger and better accomplishments in life.

A humble tribute to his father from his son Anil Wali
