he state Government has decided not to force displaced Kashmiri Pandits to return to the valley for the sake of securing rehabilitation. According to the Revenue Minister, Raman Bhalla,who heads the Apex Committee,constituted to facilitate the return of the migrants to the valley,today said "we are not going to forcibly carry migrants back to the valley." He said that those who were not willing to return would be entittled to cash relief and free ration provided they are registered with the Relief Commissioner. When asked to comment on Panun Kashmir leadership's demand that rehabilitation be not linked with return Bhalla said that "we have not linked rehabilitation with return." He made it clear that the Government has decided to give jobs to those pandit youths who returned to Kashmir. These jobs were open for them only in the valley. In reply to a question he said that "We have included all those who matter in the 32-member Apex committee but if some were not willing to associate themselves with it, we shall include those who represent camp dwellers.We have already included some and ohers too would be associated with the policy making programme." Raman Bhalla said that the Government would provide all possible assistance to those displaced people who agreed to return to the valley. And for the camp dwellers, who were not willing to return to the valley, better amenities would be provided to them in the camp areas.The Revenue Minister said that the National Conference-Congress coalition Government was very keen to carry out suitable rehabilitation of the displaced people.Schemes will be initiated for their benefit in Kashmir as well as in Jammu and other areas in the state where the migrants have been living during the last 20 years. |
