| JKNPP calls for an end to all forms of discrimination against Jammu region |
| Statement made by Shri Harsh Dev Singh, Secretary General and Chief Spokesman of the JKNPP at the Press Conference held in New Delhi along with Ex-MLAs of the party Shri Balwant Singh Mankotia, President, Young Panthers and Shri Yashpal Kundal, General Secretary-JKNPP. 1. JKNPP expresses grave concern over the increased level of violence in the State of J&K and reports of large scale infiltration taking place on regular basis. It strongly condemns the terrorist violence that rocked Jammu region yesterday and claimed seven lives besides causing loss to property. It calls for increased vigil on borders. It holds Pak squarely responsible for its attempt to foment trouble in the state at the present juncture. Pak wants to fish in the troubled waters of the state. India must vigorously take up the matter with Pak. 2. JKNPP strongly flays the persistent policy of neglect and apathy of Jammu region by the Union government. It calls for immediate redressal of the grievances of Jammu region suffering for the last 60 years. The immediate resolution of land issue should be followed by compensation to the victims of the agitation including ex-gratia to the next of kins of those killed, compensation for loss of property and relief to fruit and vegetables growers of Jammu region who sustained losses on account of continued bandhs. 3. JKNPP feels that the Centre can’t escape the responsibility for the mass agitation in Jammu region and the resultant bloodshed and turmoil that claimed several lives besides causing enormous loss to economy and irreparable damage to the secular fabric of the state. Failure of Union government to act on time resulted in escalation of violence. 4. JKNPP stands for equitable treatment to all regions of the state. Union government should treat all regions equitably without any bias or favour and without any preference or precedence to one region at the cost of the other. 5. JKNPP feels that Jammu region has always been ignored and discriminated against by the successive governments in the past in all spheres including allotment of development funds, employment opportunities, professional colleges and in allocation of Assembly and Parliamentary seats. 6. JKNPP urges upon the Prime Minister to intervene so as to fulfill the commitment made in the Common Minimum Programme of the erstwhile coalition government under his chairmanship regarding the Constitution of Delimitation Commission. It strongly advocates the removal of imbalances in the allocation of Assembly seats to various regions. It seeks equal number of Assembly seats for Jammu region so that the political dominance of one region over the other could be checked and equitable justice ensured. 7. JKNPP calls upon the Union government to provide relief, rehabilitation to Jammu migrants on the same analogy as has been done in the case of Kashmiri Migrants. It calls for strict implementation of Supreme Court directions in this regard. 8. JKNPP urges upon the Union government to intervene so as to ensure civil, political, constitutional rights to West Pak-refugees who have been deprived of the same in J&K. 9.
