Bhalla visits KP Migrant Camps to assess losses due to heavy rains Jammu (India) Aug 19, 2010 |

inister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Raman Bhalla today visited Kashmiri Pandit camps at Mishriwalla, Purkhoo and Muthi and assessed the loss caused to the tenements by flash floods triggered by heavy downpour that lashed Jammu and its peripheries this morning. District Development Commissioner, Jammu, Manoj K Dwivedi, Relief Commissioner (Migrants), Vinod Koul, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Indeerjit Bhagat, Tehsildar Jammu, Subash Chib and other senior officers of Revenue, Relief, PHE and PDD accompanied the Minister. During the visit to Mishriwalla and Purkhoo camps, Bhalla asked the DDC, Jammu to depute a team of revenue officials for assessing the loss of property of inhabitants so that the relief could be distributed among them under National Calamity Relief Fund (NCRF). He asked for providing one month free ration to the affected families as per scale fixed by the Government for KP migrants.Interacting with the KPs, the Minister assured that the Mishriwala migrant camp families will be shifted to newly constructed township by November. He said coalition Government headed by Chief Minister, Mr. Omar Abdullah was fully aware of KPs problems and making all out efforts to provide all infrastructural facilities to displaced families in their respective camps including drinking water, electricity, road connectivity, relief, free ration, education and surface drains. Later, the Minister also visited Barnai, Bantalab besides Gangyal, Bathindi and Sunjwan areas and assessed the loss of property due to incessant rains. He asked the Rural Development Department and Revenue Department authorities to prepare list of houses damaged due to rains or flash floods in the nallahs in the these areas so that the compensation under Indira Awas Yojna could be disbursed among them. Mr. Bhalla asked the Urban Environmental Engineering Department and Jammu Municipal Corporation to remove the debris from the nallahs so that the people do not face any inconvenience during monsoon. He directed them to start the renovation work of embankments of nallahs out of disaster management funds. |
