Asha Munshi / Jaya Kaul
|
| FOND REMEMBRANCE On Oct. 16’ 08, Asha Munshi / Jaya Kaul (Ex Headmistress, Kashyapa School, Srinagar) left for heavenly abode.
To some she was a mother, to some an illustrious educator, to me life partner of 40 years....and to our entire clan a binding force. We celebrate her wonderful life and treasure the precious gift she left us. A year has elapsed since we last laughed together. She will always be remembered as an epitome of simplicity, truthfulness, sincerity, graceful charm and vibrant personality that made her Every Body's Best Friend. Her physical separation has only deepened our admiration and reverence for her. As member of Theosophical Society & Women’s Welfare Trust, she was a strong proponent of women’s emancipation and advancement. She taught us to keep our heads high; we shall strive to uphold her ideals. ; Her love is still our guide and inspiration. We express gratitude to our relatives, friends and erstwhile colleagues who stood by us this year of bereavement Grieved by Dr. T .K. | Badi-Behan Ji October 2008, she left for her heavenly abode. To some she was mother and to some daughter and to some sister. To Dr. Tej Munshi, she was his wife and to me she has been my Badi Behan Ji. 1960 after taking my degree examination, I had the privilege to serve under the most dynamic, dedicated and a disciplinarian Head of the Institution whom I call Badi Behan Ji. To strangers, she was Mrs. Jaikishori Khosa, but all those who worked under her, or who have been her students, have never named her by her name due to regard respect and love for her. To all of them she is still Badi Behan ji. Those days, girls were considered academically too weak to take up Algebra-Geometry and Science subjects. They were mostly given ‘domestic arithmetic’, rangaie-dullaie and khnea-pakaie instead of algebra Geometry. Madam proved such assumptions wrong. She used to have tough time to convince parents that their daughters can do far better in Algebra-Geometry and Sciences than their
sons. I believe her student Sushma or Suneeta Koul daughter of Doctor Mohan Lal Koul (Radiologist) was the first female engineer in the valley. Dr. Santosh Hak, Dr.Tita warikoo and many more she modelled as capable doctors, academicians, judges and what not. Her contribution is in all walks of life. Sudesh Warikoo, session judge Kathua is one of her students. I believe with domestic arithmetic their grey matter would have gone down the drain. One of my colleagues in Kashyap School retired as Deputy Inspector General of Police. He would seize an opportunity to pay his regards and respect to her whenever there would be a chance meeting at any social gathering. In view of her chiseling, all those who worked under her or who were fortunate to be her students owe much to the noble soul. Peace be to the departed soul. |
